LabelAI FAQ
Which rules does LabelAI follow?
LabelAI labels AI-generated and AI-modified images for Article 50 of the EU AI Act, Regulation (EU) 2024/1689. Its transparency obligations apply since 2 August 2026. The app follows the European Commission's Code of Practice on marking and labelling of AI-generated content in its final version of 10 June 2026. LabelAI is not legal advice.
Which label does the app add?
The official EU icons AI GENERATED, AI MODIFIED and the basic AI icon, drawn from the Commission's original vector files. Their proportions are never changed. By default the label sits in the top right corner, as in the example in the Code of Practice. The app chooses the black or white variant for the best contrast, warns below a contrast of 4.5:1 and keeps a minimum size so the label stays legible.
What is included for free?
Full labelling with the EU icon at the standard size and position: top right, 6 % of the image height, 3 % distance. Metadata, signature, batch processing, Verify, the log and custom labels are free as well.
What does LabelAI Pro add?
Free size, distance and position of the AI label, including margin mode and dragging, your own watermark as text or logo and an adjustable label background opacity from 30 to 100 %. Your own watermark is always kept clear of the AI label; if necessary it is moved automatically or left out.
Pro is one non-consumable in-app purchase. There is no subscription. One purchase covers iPhone, iPad and Mac, and Family Sharing is enabled.
What is margin mode?
For evidently artistic works, margin mode places the label in a band next to the image instead of on the image itself. It is part of LabelAI Pro.
Which metadata does the app write?
The IPTC Digital Source Type: trainedAlgorithmicMedia for generated images and
compositeWithTrainedAlgorithmicMedia for modified images. The AI system, its version and
prompt information are written only if you enter them. Alt text for screen readers can be
added too. An own XMP record stores a timestamp and a signature.
Metadata travels with the file. Anyone who receives a labelled image can read it.
What does the signature prove?
The ECDSA P-256 signature is made over the image and its marking with a key stored in your device's keychain. It shows that the image and its marking have not changed since labelling; metadata that apps such as Photos add later does not affect it. It does not prove who made the image, and it is not a C2PA certificate. The signing key never leaves the device.
Does LabelAI write C2PA manifests?
No. If an image already has a C2PA manifest, changing its pixels makes that manifest invalid. The app warns you about this. The Verify section shows whether a C2PA manifest is present.
Does the app add an invisible watermark?
No. LabelAI adds the visible label and the metadata described above, nothing hidden in the pixels.
Does the app detect AI images by itself?
It looks for existing AI hints: an IPTC Digital Source Type, the presence of a C2PA manifest and known generator names in the metadata. If it finds them, it presets the classification. The decision stays with you. When you are unsure, the labelling assistant asks three questions.
Can I use my own label?
Yes, after confirming a liability notice. Custom labels are used at your own risk, without liability of the provider. The app checks for the acronym AI, the contrast and the text length.
Are my originals changed?
Only if you ask for it. By default, labelled images are exported as new files to a folder, to the Photos library or through the share sheet, and the originals stay as they are.
If you choose "Replace Originals" and confirm, the labelled version replaces the original file in the same place and under the same name. This cannot be undone, so the app asks first and names the number of files. For images from the Photos library, the labelled version is saved as an edit in Photos, and Photos keeps the original: you can revert to it at any time. Existing camera metadata is kept, and location data can be removed on export.
Does the app upload my images?
No. Images are processed on your device. There is no account, advertising, analytics or tracking, and no Corebird server. The app contacts Apple only for purchases through StoreKit. Photos access runs through the system picker, and saving to Photos asks only for permission to add images. Full library access is requested only if you replace originals in Photos.
What is the log for?
The log records your labellings for internal documentation. It is stored only on your device and can be exported as CSV or JSON.
Is LabelAI a service of the European Union?
No. The EU icons may be used freely and without attribution. Using them does not mean signing the Code of Practice.
Which languages and devices are supported?
iPhone and iPad with iOS 26 or iPadOS 26 or later, and Macs with macOS 26 or later, Apple silicon and Intel. The app is available in English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Polish, Romanian, Dutch, Czech, Swedish, Portuguese (Portugal), Greek, Hungarian, Danish and Finnish.
Where can I get the app?
LabelAI 1.0 is available on the App Store as one app for iPhone, iPad and Mac: https://apps.apple.com/app/id6814166427. The download is free; LabelAI Pro is an optional one-time in-app purchase. The App Store shows the current price for your country.
What should I include in a support request?
Include the device, the system version and the LabelAI version, the affected section and the exact message shown. A neutral test image that reproduces the issue is useful. Do not send confidential images, prompts or logs unless they are necessary and you are authorised to share them.
