easySSH FAQ
What does easySSH replace?
It replaces the need to hand-edit many everyday entries in ~/.ssh/config. It does not
replace OpenSSH. Connections, host-key checks, authentication and SFTP are still handled by
the tools included with macOS.
Does it import my existing SSH config?
easySSH reads the existing file in place. Supported fields appear in the host editor;
unknown options remain available as text. Comments, indentation and untouched lines are
preserved. Match blocks are not edited by the app.
Can easySSH overwrite changes from another editor?
It checks the file again before saving. If another program changed it after easySSH loaded it, saving is stopped and you are asked to reload. No automatic merge is attempted.
Is there a backup?
Yes. Before changing an existing config, easySSH stores a copy in
~/.ssh/config-backups/. It keeps the latest 20 backups.
Where are my passwords and private keys stored?
easySSH does not maintain its own password vault. It works with the keys and SSH agent on
your Mac. Keys you create are written to your .ssh folder. Never send a private key or
passphrase to support.
Which key type can the app create?
The current version creates Ed25519 keys. You can choose a name and add a passphrase. Existing keys of other common types can still be listed and used through your SSH config.
Why does macOS ask for permission to control Terminal?
easySSH opens Terminal or iTerm2 and enters ssh followed by the selected host alias. macOS
treats this as automation and asks for permission the first time. The setting can be changed
later under System Settings, Privacy & Security, Automation.
Can I use ProxyJump or a non-standard port?
Yes. Both have dedicated fields. Additional OpenSSH directives can be kept in the advanced options field.
How does the SFTP browser authenticate?
It uses /usr/bin/sftp and your existing SSH configuration. That includes configured keys,
known_hosts, jump hosts and the SSH agent. easySSH does not route the connection through a
Corebird service.
Can I transfer folders?
Yes. Files and folders can be uploaded and downloaded, including by dragging them between easySSH and Finder. The two-pane view also supports transfers between its local and remote sides.
Can easySSH change remote permissions?
Yes. It supports owner, group and other permissions in a checkbox grid or as an octal value. For folders, changes can optionally be applied recursively. Advanced controls include the set-user-ID, set-group-ID and sticky bits. Review recursive changes carefully before applying them.
Does launch at login create a background service?
No separate Corebird service is involved. The option registers easySSH as a macOS login item. macOS may ask you to confirm it under System Settings, General, Login Items.
What should I include in a support request?
Include your macOS version, easySSH version, whether you use Terminal or iTerm2, and the exact error text. You may include a reduced host entry after replacing hostnames, usernames and paths with neutral examples. Never include private keys, passwords, passphrases or live server addresses that must remain confidential.
Suggested support form warning
Before sending: remove passwords, passphrases, private keys, server addresses and any confidential file contents. Corebird support will never ask for your private key.
